This is all beyond belief, isn't it. Why do the laws favor the "bad guys" & offer no protection whatsoever for the "good guys?" My situation with the justice system is not exactly the same but similar. We hired someone to do some work in our home. I won't go into detail but he did a terrible job. Everything needs done again. We talked with several attorneys, all of whom said it would be too time consuming & too expensive to take him to court, & even if we won the case there was no guarantee that he would pay us our money back (almost $20,000). The last attorney said he could send this jerk a letter threatening to take him to court but the jerk was under no legal obligation to answer it. Attorney sent three letters, all of them ignored. Attorney suggested reporting him to the state Attorney General, the BBB, & Angie's List. The Attorney General's office sent him several letters, all ignored. Attorney General's office tells me sorry, there's nothing more they can do. The BBB sent him a letter which amazingly he answered right away. Although I had over 100 photographs showing the horrible work he did in our home, he denied everything. His letter was written as though he never made it past the 4th grade. His ending comment was that he's heard some people make a living out of suing other people without cause & perhaps they should check my background to see if that's what I do. I responded in a very calm & intelligent manner. They sent him a copy & never heard from him again. When they posted his rating, it was a rating of "B." When questioned as to why they gave him a "B" when they could plainly see he deserved an "F," I was told that (1) the computer is set up to assign the ratings & because he did respond to my initial complaint the computer awarded him a "B," & (2) they couldn't do anything further because he was not a member of the BBB. He obviously knew about the BBB's response rule since this is the only complaint he responded to. Finally I filed a report with Angie's List which I'm sure he could care less about. We're at the end of our possibilities. He has our money & if we want to repair the damage he did, we are going to have to go to the bank & ask for a home improvement loan.
