Planner-Obsession

Well, it's official. I now belong to a not-so elite, not-so underground society of people with OCD organizational tendencies.

That's right. I am officially and unequivocally a newbie Planner Addict.

OMG Reaction Gif

I know, right? What can I say? It's the latest of My Obsessions. And when I get obsessed with something, believe me when I tell you...I'm. All. In. Not that I really have a ton of things to plan exactly, especially with not working full time right now. But hey, a girl has needs. And the OCD girl in me needs to feel organized and in control. It just is what it is.

It began simply enough, with a desire to buy a planner to keep track of bills and important dates and stuff. Because, you know, my iPhone is great, but technology sucks sometimes. And I just find it lacking in reliability for the long term. And so, I set out to purchase a planner. But which one?

Let me just tell you, it's not an easy thing choosing a planner. I liken it to buying a new purse--it takes some serious thought. You have to have the right amount of compartments, the right size, the right color, and it has to be Über-functional.

That's right. I said Über.

And apparently, there is a "planner season," and I was NOT in it. So finding the ever-so-perfect planner became a challenge from the get-go. But I narrowed it down fairly quickly to two planners: a Paperchase one in a tealish-blue, and a kikki.K one in mint, both in A5 size. (A5 is planner-speak for 5.8 x 8.3 inches--go figure). Neither of these planners are sold in the U.S., which proves to me that I have a knack for making complicated things even more complicated. After all, buying from other countries makes things more expensive! And I'm kind of cheap frugal.

But you know what they say...what a girl wants...

So after learning that the kikki.K planner (from Australia) is sort of a unicorn of planners (hard to get), I settled on the Paperchase planner.

Paperchase Planner Front

It's got a sort of wood-grain effect on the cover. Naturally, since it was not "planner season," all the cutest A5 Paperchase planners were sold out. So I kind of settled on this one, but I do love it. After it arrived I started moving in (planner-speak for, you know, getting the planner all set up) to it and joined some FB planner groups. And I kept seeing that unicorn...that kikki.K mint planner...the unicorn...taunting me. So I set out to get one too.

I know, I know, OK? I have problems. And let me tell you, it wasn't easy to get that unicorn. I nearly gave up. But 3 emails, 2 phone calls to Australia (G'day, mate!) and 1 credit card authorization later, my kikki.K was on its way to me stateside. She arrived in short order too, considering it came all the way from down under.

Isn't my unicorn beautiful? And I got her just in time (yep, she's a her). They discontinued this particular style and I was one of the last people to be able to purchase one directly from kikki.K. Yay, me!

So what's a gal to do with not one but TWO planners, eh? It took me awhile to figure that out too. But honestly, after I decided what all I wanted to include in my planners, I realized fairly quick that I'd need two of them in order to do it! So now, after a couple of weeks of arranging and re-arranging, I have finally settled on a great arrangement. My kikki.K is my full-on organizational planner, wherein I keep track of bills, important dates, contacts, etc. And my Paperchase planner is my personal journal. I've added sections for Journal pages, Gratitudes, Quotes, and Poetry.

You know, I used to use a planner years ago and it was very handy. But I had no idea how big of a "thing" they are these days. People decorate the pages and all sorts of things, which, being the artsy gal I am, I am doing also. Makes me feel creative even when I'm sitting at my desk. Gotta love that. But planners are a really big thing. The planner groups I joined on FB--some are just to share pages and setup etc, and some are for buying and selling, while some are for purchasing planner supplies. But I've seen some planners sell in those groups for over $200! In fact, a mint kikki.K (like my unicorn) was posted there today, selling on Ebay for $250.

You Gotta Be Kidding Me Reaction Gif

Dude, I 'm dead serious. Unbelievable, isn't it? I could almost make my car payment with that much money. I'd never pay that much for a planner. It'd have to be real live unicorn for $250. And even then I don't think I'd do it.

But anyhoots, I'm all moved into my planners and enjoying the quasi-organized life that my latest obsessions are helping me to create. And lets face it: there are worse things I could be than a wee bit OCD and organized. It's not like I'm obsessed with vampires or something.

Ahem.

My Obsession with Damon and The Vampire Diaries

I originally created these memes for my Fangdom blog on Tumblr. But I decided it would be a good baby step back into the world of Tinalicious blogging by sharing them here as well. After all, The Vampire Diaries is one of My Obsessions the last couple of years. And let's not forget about DAMON. What can I say?

Awkward Moment Damon The Vampire Diaries

If only I was 10 years younger. And 50 pounds lighter. And single. And with better teeth. And um, hot. Yeah. Then Ian Somerhalder would be mine, I'm sure of it.

Here's Johnny

Time to fess up to one of My Obsessions. You know, just one of the
toomany things I'm
abnormallyobsessed with in this humble little life of mine. And I'm not talking about any of the things I've already made abundantly clear to you here at Tinalicious.

I'm not talking about...

Robert Pattinson Twilight

Nor am I talking about...

Michael Jackson Yummy

Granted, I am obsessed with those men. Why wouldn't I be? Look. At. Them. If RPattz and Bad era MJ don't qualify as obsessive material, I don't know what (or who) does! But they're just not what (or who) I'm talking about right now.

No, you see, right now, I'm talking about Johnny. And not the Johnny I'm married to either (although I do have a healthy obsession with him too, I must say, even after 29 years with the guy). I'm talking about the one and only Johnny Depp. Just face it. He's yummy.

Johnny Depp Closeup

Don't you agree?!

Johnny Depp Profile

If those two delicious photos don't convince you, then I have one last little piece of proof positive that Johnny Depp is the very definition of the sexy-obsession-worth celebrity. Please pay close attention to his face.

Dayum, Johnny. Just dayum.

So that's my latest obsession. And really, it could be worse. I mean, I could be obsessed with solving quadratic equations.

Now that would be weird.

Random Obsessions That Don't Make Me Weird

OK, so I figured it's time to get you up-to-date with My Obsessions of late
whether you like it or not. Hopefully you don't think I'm weird. Or too weird. Or weirder than you thought I was the last time you read my blog. Or something.

Chuzzle: And no, it's not a drinking game. Dammit. Seriously though, the Chuzzle game on my iPhone is beyond addictive. It's really the simplest and stupidest game in the world, but surely that's part of its allure. But I guess what draws me too is just how cute the little Chuzzles are. Really. See for yourself.

Chuzzle Face

Isn't he adorable? And so are all his (or hers?) multi-colored-furry-looking-Koosh-ball-like little friends. It's quite the multicultural world in Chuzzle land--with Chuzzles in almost every color. And the goal of the game is simple: line up three or more Chuzzles of the same color in a row. I don't know why, but I am seriously obsessed with that game. I can play it for an hour and be surprised that more than five minutes have passed. And if you tap one of the Chuzzles repeatedly, it will like sneeze and blow off its own fur for a second. Too fun! I know, I'm easily amused. But really, who needs Angry Birds when you've got Chuzzle???!

Tumblr: Tumblr is just another kind of blog platform. I call it the blog for people who don't like to write, because really, you don't have to write to have a Tumblr blog. Most people post photos, memes, quotes, digital art, music, links, videos or just about any other kind of thing you can imagine.

Tumblr vs Facebook Meme

There are over 30 million blogs on Tumblr. It's really the perfect blog for lazy people. Not that I'm lazy. But I mean, if you want to blog but don't feel like putting a lot of effort into it, it's perfect. LOL That may be why there are so many teenagers on Tumblr. Do you have a teenage son or daughter? If so, ask if they're on Tumblr...because they probably are. Some of the best laughs of my day are found on Tumblr. So it's always worth a visit from me every day...and even Facebook doesn't get that from me. Tumblr is  truly one of my favorite obsessions.

Boogie Shoes, by KC & The Sunshine Band: Hadn't heard that song in years and then surfed into it in iTunes. Downloaded it. Can't stop listening to it. It's a blast from my Boogie Shoes past. I love it!
Now wasn't that fun? I think so. And that's the end of my random obsessions. See? I'm not so weird after all.

4 Things I'm Obsessed With

It's definitely time for a visit to My Obsessions for this week. So let's get right to it, shall we?

1. My New iPhone. Now I think I need to start off by saying that I've never had a "fancy" phone until I got this iPhone yesterday. I've always been a gimme-the-cheapest-thing-you've-got-but-looks-cute-kind-of-gal. As long as it works and isn't the size of a shoe, almost any cellphone would normally do. But after my studio was robbed a couple of weeks ago, which left me sans a stereo, and after then realizing that my cell phone contract was ready for an upgrade,  it wasn't too difficult to deduce [in my own smartass Sherlock sort of way] that an iPhone would be like killing two birds with one stone.

And so I begged asked the Hubs for an iPhone. And after a lot of little convincing, he caved generously offered to get me one. Yay! So now I am the proud owner of a brand new obsession iPhone. So I'm just a tad obsessed with it, since it's all bright shiny and new at the moment. Call me crazy, but it sort of makes me want to shout, "I'VE ARRIVED" at the top of my lungs. Is that weird?

My New iPhone 4

And speaking of dead birds...

2. Pink Plastic Flamingos. Not because I have them. Nor because I want them. But because I simply don't understand them.  Why do people put those hideous things in their yards?  Who started this mad tradition of tacky plastic lawn decor? And more importantly...WHY?! Someone needs to put a stop it. What's say we hire a pack of pissed off plastic Gnomes to do the job for us, eh? Last I heard they hate the flamingos too. Let's face it: there's only so much lawn space to go around.

3. Robert Pattinson's Hair. [Now seriously, you didn't actually expect me to never mention RPattz in a post about My Obsessions, now did you?]  For real. His hair seems to have a life of its own most of the time. Not that I'm complaining. But it can be very distracting when I come across a photo of him. Sometimes I can't help but stare for far too long. This is probably something only girls can relate to. Twihard girls, to be exact. You feel me, don'tcha, girls?

4. Secrets. No, not the hush, don't tell kind of secrets. I'm talking about the song, Secrets, by One Republic. It's just a freaking awesome song is all. Take a listen...by watching the the video on YouTube, if you like. In HD even.

This song was also in the Nicolas Cage flick, The Sorcerer's Apprentice. And since I have an ongoing obsession with Nic, that makes this song quite appropriate.

And what are YOU obsessed with this week?

5 Things I'm Obsessed With

What better way to get to know someone than to discover a few of their
peculiarfavorite obsessions? So to help you get to know me just a wee bit better, I'm starting a new category called My Obsessions. And every so often I'm gonna list a random number of random obsessions for your random enjoyment. K?

1. Fairies. And I mean the politically correct fantasy-type fairies. Let's just say I have a thing for the "week folks."  And I'm utterly convinced they're the ones stealing socks from my dryer. I've even captured one in the act. I'm holding her for ransom until all my socks are returned.

Captured Fairy Jar

2. Colored Paper Clips. Why? Because regular paper clips are boring, boring, boring. And colored paper clips are fun, fun, fun! [Or something that sounds less crazy.]

Colored Paper Clips Obsession

3. Real Housewives of...OK, I'm obsessed with a few of these shows: Orange County, New Jersey, Beverly Hills, and New York..and yes, in that very order.  Some may call it reality TV. I call it mindless escapism into the world of the under-censored and overly-privileged that somehow manages to make me feel better about my own life. There's actually no logical reason why I like these shows, but hey, I do. And I'm not
totallyashamed of that fact. You gotta problem with that? Don't make me go Jersey on your a$$ and flip a table on you or something.

4. Buying Books I Don't Have Enough Time to Read. Since I baby-sit my granddaughter for most of the week, in addition to helping the Hubs with his biz, running some online businesses of my own, working for a web host, getting creative in my studio, taking care of the house, cooking, paying bills, and, oh yeah, a little thing called blogging, I don't have a lot of time left over to read. I love to read. But with my time being much less my own, I find myself able to read less--only it doesn't actually stop me from buying books. My reasoning is that someday I won't need to baby-sit anymore (or at least, not so much), and that will free up more of my days. It will also free up more of my nights, since as it is now, I do everything at night that I don't have time to do while baby-sitting during the day. Got that so far?  Bottom line is that at some point, I'm gonna have lots more time to read. And I want to have books I want to read when that time finally arrives. But oy, in the mean time...it's interesting trying to find space for all the books!

Buried in Books

5. This Gif of Cap'n Jack Sparrow.

Captain Jack Sparrow LOL

I don't know why I'm obsessed with it. But I am. And it's, you know, Johnny Depp. As my favorite pirate. Cap'n Jack. Isn't that enough reason?

So there are 5 obsessions for this week. See? You know me better already.

My Friday Confessions March 4

My Friday Confessions Logo

OK, I'm spilling the beans. Baring my soul. Filling up blog space. And so on. Are you ready? Are you sure?

Well, OK then.

I confess...I disregard the expiration date on egg cartons. Like, always. The Hubs and I eat the eggs in the carton until they're all gone. And amazingly, we've lived to tell the tale. Isn't that eggscellent? [Sorry. Couldn't resist.] Strangely though, I would never drink expired milk. Go figure.

Expired Eggs Meme

I confess...I have never watched Glee. [Insert the gasp heard round the world here.] I'm not sure if this means that I'm just so highly evolved  and enlightened that my intellect is in incapable of rationalizing or enjoying this type of entertainment...or if it means that I'm just lame.

Glee Meme

I confess...I want a piece of the rock. Not this one:

Big Rock Mountain

Yeah, tempting...but not this one either.

Big Rock Diamond

I mean, this one.

The Rock Dwayne Johnson

I'd just like to point out that I don't typically find myself attracted to lusciously muscle-bound men. And I'm not particularly fond of tattoos.  But there is just something about Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson.

That tough exterior.

The Rock Dwayne Johnson Tough

The wry smile.

The Rock Dwayne Johnson Smile

The piercing gaze.

The Rock Dwayne Johnson Shades

Have. Mercy.

The Rock Dwayne Johnson Sexy

I confess...that I might be ever so slightly over-infatuated with The Rock. Maybe just a smidge. What? You say "obsession" likes it's a bad thing. But at least I'm not stalking him. Give me some credit.

Have a good weekend, y'all.

Best Chick Flicks You've Probably Never Seen

The following is a list of some of my favorite chick flicks, but they are ones that weren't necessarily huge box office hits. As a result, you may never have seen them. Call them just a few of my favorite move obsessions. I can watch them over and over an still love them. You gals will understand, I'm sure.

The Man in the Moon
The Man in the Moon, starring Reese Witherspoon

This 1991 film marks the first time I ever saw Reese Witherspoon on film. I can't say I knew she'd become the big star that she is today, but seeing what I did in this movie, it didn't surprise me either. It's a story set in 1957, when a 14 year old Dani (Reese) finds first love; while her older sister, Maureen finds true love. Unfortunately, they're both in love with the same young man, and fate has other things in store for all of them. Trust me, you need hankies for this film, girls! And it's a must see.

Mystic Pizza
Mystic Pizza, starring Julia Roberts

This Julia Roberts movie was made before we even knew who Julia Roberts was. It's about 2 sisters, Kat and Daisy (Julia) and their friend JoJo, all of whom work at a pizza parlor in Mystic, Connecticut. It's about sisters, and friendships, finding true love...and not so true love. It's really a sweet and girly kind of flick. It'll make you laugh, and maybe cry a little bit too.

Hope Floats
Hope Floats, starring Sandra Bullock

When Birdee (Sandra) finds out on a TV talk show that her BFF is sleeping with her husband, she leaves with her daughter to move back home with Mama in Texas. She has to deal with depression, a daughter who blames her and misses her daddy, catty old friends, an eccentric mama, and an old male friend, who has always been in love with her. The critics panned this movie, but I never listen to critics. If you can't find a reason to like the emotional journey this film takes you on, then your heart must be completely shriveled up and dried out! Watch with tissues.

Paradise
Paradise, starring Don Johnson & Melanie Griffith

This has got to be one of the most overlooked movies of all time. Don and Melanie star as an unhappy couple who seem to have lost their love for each other, when a friend's young boy comes to stay the summer with them (played by a young Elijah Wood). It's really a story about love and loss and family, and about letting go and appreciating life's gifts. The cinematography is amazing too. Don't rent it...BUY IT! You won't be disappointed.

While You Were Sleeping
While You Were Sleeping, starring Sandra Bullock

What can I say? I'm a Sandra fan, and this is a feel good chick flick that I love to watch again and again. Sandra plays Lucy, who takes tokens for the "L" train in Chicago, and who falls in love with a commuter, Peter, who passes through her booth each day. One day he falls onto the tracks and Lucy rescues him, though he's in a coma, and she mistakenly gets identified as his fiancee, and recognized as such by his family. Since Lucy is lonely and has no family of her own, she has a hard time telling the family the truth, and as the days go on, she finds herself falling more in love...with Peter's brother. This movie is quirky and funny and touching and heartwarming, a "feel good" chick flick for sure. If this doesn't tug at your heartstrings, I don't know what will.

And now that I'm in total chick flick mode, I think it's time to pop some popcorn, curl up on the couch, and watch a good chick flick...or two.
